I'm Officially Moving My Blog To A New Home

No, I'm not moving my house, just my blog. Previously my blog and my web site were on two different stand alone sites. Because I needed to make my web site mobile friendly, I have decided to combine my blog and my site in one place making it easier for me to post articles and for my clients to be able to just have everything in one place.

I will be leaving this site, Everything Spirit up for another few weeks until I am able to get all of the articles moved over to have them available for those that still want to go back and read them. Once they are moved to the new site, I will be taking this site down as I will not be posting further articles here.

My new blog is currently available with new articles at Readings By Ms Yvonne Blog and is where I will not only be posting the past articles from this blog, but will also be posting many new articles.

If you are currently following this blog, I hope you will take a few minutes to check out my new blog and become a follower. I think you'll really enjoy some of the articles I have already posted and the new ones to come.

Thank you for your continued support of my blog and I hope you'll stay with me on my new blog.

An Open Letter To The Parents Of Bullies

Now that school is back in session for the New Year, there is something I would like to address on bullies. While the teachers, counselors and other parents are busy trying to teach your children not to be a bully, you might want to jump in here and so some of the work yourself.

The first thing should be getting out of denial that your child is a bully. How do you recognize if he or she is a bully, pay attention to their behavior? I’m willing to bet if they are a bully outside the home, they are a bully at home also.

Don’t use the excuse you are too busy. You chose to be a parent so now is the time to step up and be one.

When I say pay attention to their behavior, that means if they are posting on any social media sites you need to see what they post. If they are under 21, live in your house, use your internet, or use a phone you bought them, then they should be following your rules. It’s not an invasion of privacy, it’s your job as a parent. Don’t treat them like your best friend, treat them like your child.

While behavior toward others should be taught when they are young, it’s really never too late to start or reinforce good behavior. I often hear parents say their child is too young to understand, but the reality is they are never too young. Just as you teach them touching something may hurt them, that is the time to teach them about hurting others.

If your child comes home with money or things you have no idea where they came from, ask questions and find out. Just as you would not want your child to give away an expensive item you bought them for Christmas, it’s not a far cry to understand some other parent wouldn’t approve of their child giving away that item either. As a parent, find out where and how they acquired the money or item, who it was taken from and make them return it with an apology.

Now comes the hard part, look at your home life and see if there is something there causing this type of behavior. Children often learn from what they see around them. Are they getting the idea this type of behavior is okay because they are seeing it in a parent or sibling acting this way with no consequences for their actions? While you might get offended by this remark, maybe it’s time to take a good look at the situation.

Before you ask, no, I do not have a professional background in counseling. What I do have is many years of experience as a parent, grandparent with a large family full of children. Seriously, most of what I’ve written here is just common sense rules of parenting.

With this article, I’m joining the masses of people trying to stop bullying. I’ve seen and read too many articles on our youth feeling like their only way out of the situation is to end their own lives. How sad this can be prevented by intervention of the parents of the cause of their suffering.

So, not only am I asking more people to not just speak up but to take action, but also asking the parents of these bullies to take a look at their child and put a stop to their bad behavior. I’m not now, nor would I ever, call a child bad, but instead ask them to reflect on their bad behavior. As a mother of two boys, I often had to address their behavior but also had to make sure there were consequences to face if they acted out.

Please feel free to leave your comments, good or bad, and I’ll try to address them in a timely fashion. Thank you for allowing me to voice my concerns.

Finding A Soul Mate

Have you found your soul mate yet? Are you still looking for your soul mate? Where the heck do you find your soul mate? What is the definition of a soul mate? Are these the type of questions you are always asking yourself?

I do psychic readings and if I had a dime for every time someone came to me asking about their soul mate, I could buy my own island. I have to wonder if most of these people even have an idea of what a soul mate is so I looked up the definition in Webster’s Dictionary.
It says: 1. A person who is perfectly suited to another in temperament. 2. A person who strongly resembles another person in attitudes and beliefs.

My take is someone that is pretty much just like me. Someone with the same temperament, attitudes and beliefs. Does that mean someone who acts, thinks and behaves just like me? Is there really only one person out there in the whole world that would fit this description and would I really want to spend every day of my life with essentially a clone of me. Sounds rather boring and not very interesting if we always agreed on everything. Where would the excitement come in? Does this mean we would always feel and think the same about everything? I, personally, wouldn’t want my spouse, lover or whatever position they hold, to have the same emotions and thoughts I have, besides I have some crazy thoughts depending on where I am that day.
I so often hear clients say they need a soul mate to complete them. Seriously, if you aren’t happy with yourself, you can’t make someone else happy. We create our own happiness, we shouldn’t look to others to make us happy. That would be a hard job, I would never saddle someone else with that task. Complete you, really, isn’t that a catch phrase from a movie and sort of unpractical in real life. What can you add to a relationship, rather friendship, family or romantic if you are not good in your own skin?

Sadly I see so many people searching so hard for that one person, that perfect mate, the one that will be their soul mate, they tend to overlook the obvious. They don’t see the person that is always there for them, in good times and bad. The one you can always count on to give you a reality check when they think you are about to make a bad choice, even if it causes a disagreement. Someone with flaws and baggage of their own, but still makes time to listen. You feel comfortable enough with them to allow them to see you in an old pair of sweats, no make-up on a bad hair day. You can share secrets, laugh at your mistakes (which they usually point out to you) and have heated debates on everything from politics to religion. Sometimes you are polar opposites on topics, but allow each other to make their point and don’t judge even when you think they are wrong.

Most people I have come across think a soul mate is the perfect person. Truly, we are all flawed humans, there is no perfect person anywhere on this earth. They seem to think a soul mate will make their life perfect. The reality is, if your life is totally screwed up, you are the one that needs to fix it, not put that burden on another person. Will you live happily ever after once you find your soul mate? You do know that only happens in fairy tales, not in the real world.

Wouldn’t you be better off with that person that will go through life’s ups and downs, joys and sorrow but still be there for you? A good fit for me is the person that has their own flaws and can overlook mine. I’m not perfect, so having do deal everyday with someone that is would be just too taxing. It would take away from me, the person I am, to have to try to be on my best behavior all the time. To always think, feel and believe the same as someone else would take away my spirit, the inner workings of me, the thing that makes me the unique person I know. I would rather have someone that has their own belief, their own thoughts and their own unique personality.

Well, that’s my take on the subject of soul mates. Does it agree with yours, maybe not, but that’s okay. I’m always open to hearing others view points on the subject, so comment or contact me, I’d love to hear your ideas.

With that said, I’m off to work giving readings and dollars to donuts I will get at least three or four clients today asking when they will meet their soul mate.

Getting Rid of Negative Energy

I know you’ve heard me say this about a million times, if you put out positive energy it will attract positive energy, while putting out negative energy will attract negative energy.Do you want to see if it really works, read on and take my challenge?
A few months ago, I met a wonderful lady (who has given me permission to use our discussion) on the internet that asked me to help her with her own spiritual journey. We chat several times a week and it seems the main subject we most discuss is the need for her to change her mindset. We are currently in the process of getting her to stop saying I can’t and start believing she can do what she needs to make a better life for herself. One of the first things I noticed in our chats was her continual negative responses, so something we work at on a regular basis.
First of all, no you cannot always be positive and there will be times a negative thought crosses your mind. We are human and it’s human nature for this to happen, however, you can try to turn those negatives into something positive. Strictly speaking for myself, when I get a negative thought (yes, I’m human too and get them), I try to stop and see why I feel this way. Sometimes I have to step back from the situation, take a deep breath and see if I can change my own attitude. I wish I could say it works every time, but sometimes I just have to realize there are things happening in my life I can’t fix and try to get past it.
Bad things do happen to good people and sometimes it just isn’t your fault. For instance if you are driving down the road, another driver is texting and hits your car. No, you did not put out negative energy and cause this to happen. However, if you’re driving, angry because the traffic isn’t going fast enough, people are getting in your way, and the anger is causing you to be inattentive to the point you don’t see the traffic in front of you stopping and you hit someone else, that is a good example of negative energy bringing negative results.
I decided the best way to help my friend was to give her a challenge. For one 24 hour period she will try her best to put out only positive energy. If she starts to feel the negative creep in, she will stop, push it out of her mind and find something positive to replace it. On the second day, she will put out negative energy, allowing herself to spew her anger and frustrations with whatever she feels. I ask that she keep a notebook handy and write down how she feels, physically, emotionally and spiritually throughout the two days. At the end of the challenge we will evaluate what she has written and see how the changes affect her.
I realize there are many skeptics, naysayers, and just plain I don’t believers out there. It’s okay, I was at that place myself at one time. But, if you’ve read this far, I offer this same challenge to you. Are you up for it? I’d love to hear your ideas, comments or even rebuttal.
Now, who will take the challenge?
P.S. A big thanks to my dear friend in allowing me to use our discussion as a jumping off point for this blog article.

This is a repeat of an article I wrote some time back but felt something that needed to be addressed.

My Personal Memory of September 11, 2001

On September 11, 2011, I awoke to a phone call from my sister. She was crying and told me to turn on the television. I sat and watched in tears as our country was attacked. I called my children, my family and friends while I worried about my husband who was driving a gasoline tanker on the freeways and streets of Southern California. I felt hopeless, I couldn't think, all I could do was watch in terror as the planes hit the towers, the pentagon and the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania not knowing how close it was to my family living there. I sat down at my computer and these are my thoughts that just seemed to tumble from my fingertips onto my computer screen.

Attack On America                    Feelings of Yvonne McAdams Peramaki    September 11, 2001

 I didn’t see the explosion,
I couldn’t hear the loud boom,
I was clear across the country,
In a place I thought I would always be safe,
 Here in my own home,
 Sitting in my living room.

How could this have happened?
Brought our world to a halt,
 As people run for cover
Refuge for their lives being sought.
They have closed down our whole country,
Who could have been so mean?
 And on every television station,
Devastation is all that is seen.
 Words can not express enough
The great sorrow that we feel
For those who lost their lives
 In those hijacked airplanes
And those buildings made of steel.

 How do I explain this?
Should I let them know my fears?
What do we tell our children?
As we all sit and watch in tears.
I guess we can only tell them
We will try to keep them safe
And try to teach them how to love,
And to say a prayer to God
For those who lost their lives
And are now with him above.

 What were they thinking?
As they hijacked those planes high in the air?
As long as they got their point across,
I guess they just really didn’t care.
Did they care about the grief?
Or the lives that would be lost?
Was their satisfaction with what they’d done,
Worth the human lives it cost.

Now 10 years later, as America and the World remembers and mourns, please take a few minutes from your busy life to say a prayer for the heroes of Flight 93, those that lost their lives in New York and at the Pentagon in the planes and on the ground. Say a prayer for all of the courageous men and woman who were first responders and for the brave men and women in our armed forces, police departments, fire departments and homeland security that are still on the job trying to keep our country safe.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

Do You Believe In Healing Crystals?

Is using crystals for healing going against your Christian faith? While I touched on this topic in a previous post, I thought it needed to be looked at in more depth. I recently had a client to whom it was suggested using crystals and she felt it would go against her faith in GOD to use them. This is what led me to feel I needed to address this issue in more detail. I ask that you read the entire post before you make comments so you fully understand where this is going.

Please understand that I am using this client’s story with her permission. All readings and conversations resulting from those readings are always held in the strictest confidence, so without her permission I would not have used her story as a reference for this article. For the remainder of this article, I will refer to her as Ms. M.

Ms. M is the friend and fellow parishioner of one of my long time personal clients. Recently they were discussing rather or not they believed in the paranormal and psychics. My client confided in Ms. M that she did in fact believe in both and had been getting readings from me for many years. A few days after their conversation, Ms. M decided she would like to try a reading, however since she was skeptic and wasn’t sure she wanted anyone to know about it, she decided to answer an email for a free reading. She felt she had nothing to lose if the reading was free. The email sent her to an online site where she was connected to the person who owned the site. Instead of getting a full reading, she was only given a little information. The lady then tried to sell her a full reading and crystals that would help heal all that was wrong in her life, both being very expensive. Ms. M told the lady she wasn’t comfortable going any further and as she was a Christian, felt using the crystals were against her faith. The lady made some rude remarks about Ms. M being stupid and rather nasty remarks about her faith and clicked out.

Ms. M talked to her friend (my client) about the reading and the rudeness of the lady she had contacted. Her friend told her to go to my website, read the information I have on it, and if she felt comfortable to contact me letting me know she had referred her. I received her email and we decided to connect by phone to discuss my thoughts on crystal healing.

I assured her it was not my intent to change her belief or diminish her faith, just give her my own ideas on using crystals. While I currently do not practice a structured religion, I do have a strong faith in my beliefs. I believe that GOD created the universe, he is always around me and I can talk to him whenever I need. As I believe he created everything in nature, crystals are from the earth and part of his creation. Because they come from the earth and are not man made, they carry a very strong energy that can be used in may way, especially for healing energy. I cleanse them in salt water or with the smoke from sage and charge them in the moonlight. These again, are parts of nature and his creations. After a lengthy conversation, Ms. M was still unsure of how she felt about using crystals in regards to her faith but was interested in learning more about them. I suggested she might talk to her pastor about her conflict and get his ideas on whether or not it was against their faith. I also apologized to her on behalf of myself and many other ethical readers for her treatment by the other reader.

I’ve given you my beliefs on using crystals and how it fits into my faith. This in no way is meant to imply you should believe as I do, nor am I trying to influence your faith. Instead, it should be entirely your choice and your decision. However, if you do decide to use crystals and would like more information on their healing energies, I’d be glad to help you.

Now, in the beginning of this article I asked you read it through before adding comments and if you read this far, I thank you. I’ve given you my views and opinion, now I hope you’ll add your own.

Citrine - The Stone of Success

Citrine is often called the stone of the mind and also the stone of lucky merchants. It’s said that if a merchant puts a citrine in the cash register drawer, it will bring abundance and success to the business. It attracts wealth, prosperity and success to its user. Its element is Fire, planet is Jupiter and Zodiac is Aries, Gemini, Leo and Libra. It is used as the birthstone for November and is the stone for jewelry given for the thirteenth anniversary. Citrine is a good stone to use for scrying for matters of money and other forms of property.

While most stones are cleaned by using a salt water bath, buried in the earth or a smudging, Citrine is self cleansing and can be used to cleanse other crystals. When charging this stone, it is best done in the moonlight rather than sunlight as it should be kept out of strong light.

Citrine is associated with the Sacral, Solar Plexus and Crown Chakra. It can be used to clean the chakra and opens the intuition. It’s a great stone to align with the higher self and protect your aura. You can use it for emotional balancing, energizing and recharging. Also good for enhancing concentration, revitalizing the mind, and stimulates the brain strengthening the intellect. It will open the mind to new thoughts and promote clarity of thought. Imparts joy, wonder, delight, enthusiasm promotes motivation, activates creativity and encourages self-expression.
While it will release negative traits, depression, fears and phobias; it will also protect from the negative energy from someone else’s abuse.

Citrine has many healing attributes as well, including promotes and helps stimulate digestion, the spleen and pancreas. It negates kidney and bladder infections, as well as relieves constipation. It helps with eye problems, blood circulation, detoxifies the blood, activates the thymus and balances the thyroid.

Something I just recently learned about Citrine that I will certainly being using it to see how well it works, is that is removes cellulite. This alone may make Citrine one of my very favorite stones.
If you have any questions about Citrine or any other stone, please let me know and I’ll try to find the answers you need. You can contact me here, through my blog, on face book at http://facebook.com/msyvonnelp, or email me at msyvonnereading@yahoo.com.

Be sure to watch for my re-grand opening of my web site in the next few weeks, http://www.readingsbymsyvonne.com/ as I will be offering many different stones for purchase.

Angelite - The Communication Stone

Angelite has to be one of my favorite stones, if for no other reason than the beautiful blue color is so very calming for me. It’s often used as a way to communicate with Angels or to connect with animal spirit guides. This stone is used for several different chakra areas, including the fifth throat, sixth or third eye, and also the seventh crown. It is associated with the element of wind.

While I have heard many use this stone to assist in astral travel, I have never used it for that purpose myself. I am told if you are using this stone for astral travel, it’s recommended to have a stone such as hematite handy for grounding. Often two people, each having the stone on their person, use it for telepathic communication.

From my research on this stone, I find that it is one that should never be cleansed with water, so I would advise using sage or whatever you use to smudge instead. My understanding is that if you have jewelry containing Angelite, you should never wear it while swimming or bathing.

Here are some of its other amazing properties and uses:

  • Healing of anger
  • Used to unlock secrets, brings out the truth
  • Promotes inner peace and tranquility
  • Alleviates suffering
  • Helps to expand awareness
  • Allows for self-expression
  • Provides energetic support to bone density and growth
  • Helps with arthritis and osteoporosis as it can assist in attaining mobility of the joints and range of motion
  • Helps dissolve calcification in the joints
  • Can help with eating disorders caused or brought on by emotions or stress
  • Used for relief of throat inflammation
  • Helps to balance the thyroid
  • Angelite is associated with the wind element.

This is an excellent stone to use for dream work as it can help you to remain lucid and remember guidance received during the dreams. It is also known to help tune into memories of past lives.

Again as always, if you have any questions about this stone or if there are any others you would like me to research, please let me know. If there any properties for Angelite that I've missed, I hope you use a comment to add them.

Carnelian - Energy Booster

First, I would like to take a moment to address something about crystals. I’ve had several people mention they felt using crystals was in some way bad or had to do with magic. The crystals I use are all natural and come from the earth. Now, if you believe as I do that GOD created the world, than you have to believe since these came from that earth he created, they would have healing properties.

The Carnelian was once considered to be only owned by the noble class, with a high social status. There were often buried with the nobles to protect the traveler after death and guard against evil.

It is a variety of chalcedony, and come in shades of light to very dark red. It’s affiliated with Taurus, Cancer, Leo and Virgo signs of the Zodiac. It is often used on either the root or sacral chakra. The Carnelian is often given as jewelry for the 17th anniversary.

The Carnelian has a long list of properties, but is most associated with giving an energy boost. The other properties are as follows:

  • Protects from bad vibrations
  • Helps give a sense of humor
  • Calms the temper
  • Helps those with self doubt find their inner strength
  • Boost and helps improve appetite
  • Purifies the blood
  • Relieves menstrual cramps
  • Beneficial in the treatment of infertility
  • Enhances passion and desire
  • Helps remove fears
  • Protects against envy and rage
  • Used for help with kidney problems
  • Helps fight against colds and pollen allergies

It is often used by artist, as it is also known to promote creativity. As you can see it is a stone used for many reasons, and has a vast number of healing properties.

The Carnelian can be easily found for purchase from many sites on the internet, but always be sure you are getting the natural stone, and not a simulated variety. I will soon be selling the stones and my hand made jewelry on my website http://www.readingsbymsyovnne.com/ and will let you know when my shop is open for business.

If you have any questions regarding the Carnelian or another stones, please contact me through my blog or on face book at http://facebook.com/msyvonnelp.

Amethyst - Stone of Psychic Power

I use crystals in many ways and am always offering that information to my clients for their use. Lately, I’m receiving more and more questions about the different crystals and their use. For this reason, I thought I would write a few articles here to pass on that information.

I’m starting with Amethyst because this is a crystal I personally use often. It’s often referred to as the stone of psychic power. Most people know that it’s the birthstone for February and it’s purple. This stone can actually come in many shades from very light lilac to a beautiful deep purple. It’s a variety of quartz.

Over the centuries, Amethyst has been believed to be a healing stone and used for a variety of things. It has been used to guard against drunkenness and thought to help overcome addiction.
It has many properties including:
  • Calms emotions and reduces stress
  • Gives holder more optimistic and uplifting perspective
  • Powerful amulet for travelers
  • Transmitter of healing power of the universe
  • Increases psychic awareness
  • Kept with divination tool to enhance their qualities
  • Placed under the pillow, it helps with insomnia and induces prophetic dreams
  • Used to induce harmony
  • Helps promote mediation
  • Helps clear the aura
  • Boost hormones
  • Aids with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue and helps the immune system
  • Used on the crown chakra

While it is the stone for February, its beautiful color makes it a favorite stone for jewelry. Its properties will not be affected if it’s placed in jewelry, just be sure that it’s a natural stone and not man made. It can be carried in a pocket, or my favorite place to carry it ladies, placed inside the cup of your bra. Placed under the pillow or inside your pillow slip, it will help with insomnia. If used in healing on, you can also just place it on the part of the body that needs to be healed.

These are just some of the uses for Amethyst, and if you have another use or know of more properties, please feel free to share that information with us. If you have any questions, please let me know and if I don’t have the information available, I’ll see what I can do to find out for you.

Roadblocks On My Spiritual Journey

If I had to pick one, and quite possibly the biggest, roadblock on my own spiritual journey, I’d have to confess it’s me. I truly think I caused my journey to be disrupted several times due to my own skepticism, self doubt and fear. I alone have caused my journey to be quite a bumpy rollercoaster of a ride.

I’ve known I was different since a very young age. While many had to face this alone, I was so fortunate to have a grandmother that recognized my abilities and was there to guide me. I wish I could say I listened to her and allowed her to guide me through my journey, but that would only be a half truth. I was scared of things that happened and embarrassed my friends would think I was weird, so I fought it as hard as I could and refused to accept this could happen to me. True, I loved Grams so much, followed her around, dressed like her, and wanted to be like her, but just without her abilities. When strange and crazy things happened, she was always there to explain it. I would cry and tell her I didn’t want dead people talking to me, only to have her tell me how special I was to have them want to visit with me to pass on messages to their loved ones still here. While I might want to know if I was going to be a rock star when I grew up, I didn’t really want to know what was going to happen to other people and please don’t let it be anything bad. She would explain how I could help them by letting them know what to expect so they could make the right choices. Nope, that didn’t help me; let someone else have these messages to deliver, I just didn’t want to it to be me. My mom passed away when I was only eight and it really threw me into a spin. I was mad at her for leaving me, but even madder at GOD because I couldn’t understand how he could be so mean to take her when he knew I needed her. Again it was my Grams that finally got through to me and made me realize GOD wasn’t being mean to me and there was always a reason behind what he did. In my early teens I finally realized she was right, he wasn’t being mean to me, but instead saving my mom from a life of pain. I apologized to him and thanked him for taking good care of my mom.

In my late teens and early twenties, I finally accepted it wasn’t going away and it was time for me to embrace it and learn to work with it to help others. Then came my skepticism and self doubt era. I was giving readings but began to doubt if the message I was giving was real or just my own thoughts of what I wanted for the client. I was fortunate to find a mentor to help me overcome my self doubt and teach me to give better readings.

I still continue on my journey, reading, researching, and learning more every day. There are still times I doubt myself, but I work at getting through those rough spots and try to come out with more understanding of myself and my abilities.

This is just a little of how I’ve stumbled through my journey and I hope you’ll share your own struggles.

Why I Charge For Readings

I don’t think a day goes by where someone doesn’t ask me for a free reading. When I say I don’t give free readings, they ask why I charge for my grift. If it’s a gift, I should share it for free. So I’m going to try to be as polite as I can muster and explain why I charge for my readings.

While some may call it a gift, I instead look at it as an abilitry. Even if I were to refer to it as a gift, I would still charge. Surgeons, musicians, artists and most talented people are said to be given a gift. Do you question them why they charge for their surgeries, music or paintings? I really doubt most would even bring up the subject. Yet I and others with the same types of abilities are constantly asked. We are professionals and take our work seriously.

Doing readings is how I earn my living. While it’s great to work from home, it’s not as great as you may think. I live on the west coast, with many of my clients on the east coast. Since this is a three hour time difference, I may have to get up between 4am and 5am so they can have their reading before they start their day. I also have clients on the other side of the world, different time zones, sometimes different days, and I may have to stay up till 2am or 3am because that’s the time they are usually on the computer and asking for a reading. If I have a lot of readings to do, I may only get 2 to 3 hours off to eat, sleep and hopefully take a shower. Many of my email readings can take as long as an hour or more to perpare.

When I do readings from the http://liveperson.com/ms-yvonne website, I have to pay to use their platform. I’m charged a commission for each and every reading I perform, rather it be live chat or eamil. I have to pay to host my own web site, http://www.readingsbymsyvonne.com/. I have to spend a lot of my time and sometimes my money to promote my business. If I didn’t charge you, I would have to pay to give my readings.

I have bills just like everyone else, so yes, I have to charge for my readings if I want to have a roofe over my head and food on the table. This is my job and just like you, I don’t like working for free.

When you need a reading, whether it be from me or someone else, remember they are trying to make a living just like you, so please don’t expect them to do it for free.

Why and How To Smudge

It seems many people are hearing about the wonderful effects of smudging and I am constantly asked to explain the process and results. While most are hearing about it now being used by many high end clients to help sell their homes, it has really been around for many centuries and used by cultures from all over the world. Yes, it is a long time traditional ceremony used by Native Americans, but the people of India, China, and many other cultures have been using the smoke from herbs, plants or incense for centuries also.

There are many reasons why you might want to have a smudging done on yourself and your home. It can help remove negative energy, bad spirits, spiritual cleansing and many other reasons we will look at in this article.

Before moving into a new home, I always suggest doing a complete smudging to remove any negative energy left behind by the former occupants. This will assure you’re starting out in your new home with good energy. While many feel they don’t have negative energy around them, that is just not the case. I’m sure we all know people that always seem to be angry and refuse to see any good things in their lives. These are the type of people that can leave negative energy where ever they go, including your normally peaceful home. A good smudging after they leave will bring that wonderful feeling back to your home. Actually you don’t need a reason to smudge, it can just be something you do on a regular basis. Just as you do your regular cleaning and dusting, a cleansing of your body and environment is a good habit to follow.

You don’t need anything expensive or elaborate to smudge, however, I would suggest buying your herbs from a reliable source. While most people use white sage, you can also use western red cedar or sweet grass. I see a lot of places on the web suggest you use an abalone shell for burning, but in most of the Native American teachings I’ve read, they feel the shell is from the ocean and should only be used in water ceremonies, never burning. Instead, you should consider using a stone, clay or glass bowl. I don’t use the separate leaves, but use a smudge stick. Some I have are just the white sage, but I also have sticks that contain white sage, red cedar and sweet grass all combined. Although I use the sticks, I find that sometimes the lit ash tends to drop, so I always put my stick into a large glass ashtray filled with dirt. This also serves as a way to extinguish the sage when I’m done with my smudging.

Before you begin smudging or doing any type of ritual or ceremony, it’s very important that you first ground yourself and invoke protection. There are many ways to do this, but I’ll try to give you an easy method for both. For the grounding, standing with your eyes closed, imagine you are a tree and feel the roots coming down into the floor. You can protect yourself by picturing a safe white light coming down to surround you, as you ask whatever higher entity of your belief to protect as you smudge.

Light the sage leaves or stick, then blow out the flame so you have a nice strong plume of smoke. As you recite prayers asking to help you remove the negative energy, use your hands to first surround your body in the smoke. Continue with this until you have cleansed your entire body. To begin the cleansing of your home, start in the farthest left corner from where you enter your home. Using a clockwise circular motion, walk through each room, making sure to cover the entire area including the corners, until you have completed the cleansing of your entire home. When you are finished, make sure to completely extinguish the sage and remember to say a thank you prayer for the help provided during the cleansing.

For me personally, after I have finished my smudging with the sage, I go back and do it again with a calming herb to help bring a relaxing calm feeling back to the whole house. You can burn calming herbs, such as lavender, chamomile, or valerian. If you don’t have the herbs, you can use candles, incense or any type of aromatherapy scent like lavender, sandalwood, vanilla, ginger or cinnamon. You can also just boil a little water on the stove and drop in a few lavender buds or cinnamon sticks to achieve the same results.

In older homes, especially after major renovations, you might have stronger energies or spirits that refuse to be removed. If you are having major problems or a lot of negative energies surrounding you, a simple cleansing may not be enough. In these cases, it might require a professional to come in to do a more through cleansing. I do this type of cleansing in my immediate area, but if you need someone in your area, please contact me and I would be happy to help you find a trusted professional to help.

If you have any questions or need further guidance, please contact me through my blog and I’ll be glad to help where I can.

Current Family and Ancestors Birthdates, Coincidence or Spiritual Connection

I’ve been trying to do my family tree and have come across something that got me to thinking about family birthdays. We have a very large family, so even keeping track of our current members can be a daunting task, so until I started doing the research, I had no idea how many had the same dates as our ancestors. Is this just a coincidence or something more?

As I mentioned, we have a very large family so when some birthdays were on the same dates, I never really paid much attention. Now that I’ve been looking back at some of our ancestors going back more than three hundred years and finding the same dates, it really has me thinking.
My sister, my niece and I all have a son born on May 10, just different years. I just thought how nice this was, nothing more, until I found that was also the birthday of my grandfather. He had passed several years before I was born, so it wasn’t something I knew till I began my research. Another sister has a granddaughter born the same day as an uncle who had passed away several decades before she was born. As I continue my research, I’m finding more and more of the same.

I don’t believe in coincidences, instead everything happens for a reason, so I’ve been trying to find any type of statistic on the subject. Currently, I haven’t been able to find anything, so I have nothing but my own family numbers and my own personal opinion. I can’t but think there is a spiritual connection to the family through the numbers of the birthdates.
What about children being born on the anniversary of older family members passing? Is there a spiritual connection? This came up in a recent conversation with one of my younger sisters, actually it kind of freaked her at first. We had a brother that was born and passed in the early 1940’s. Since my own mother had passed when we were both very young, we really didn’t know exactly when he passed or where he was interred. I just recently found his grave site, along with the date of his death and his burial. The date of his burial was the same as her birthday, the year was just reversed, his burial 1945, her birth 1954. Again, I feel this was not a coincidence, but instead a spiritual connection between them. This also seems to be something that continues to repeat itself the more I research.

Is there a scientific reason for this? Is it a coincidence? I feel it’s a spiritual connection. What do you think? I hope you leave a comment and give me your own personal story or opinion on why this happens.
