Roadblocks On My Spiritual Journey

If I had to pick one, and quite possibly the biggest, roadblock on my own spiritual journey, I’d have to confess it’s me. I truly think I caused my journey to be disrupted several times due to my own skepticism, self doubt and fear. I alone have caused my journey to be quite a bumpy rollercoaster of a ride.

I’ve known I was different since a very young age. While many had to face this alone, I was so fortunate to have a grandmother that recognized my abilities and was there to guide me. I wish I could say I listened to her and allowed her to guide me through my journey, but that would only be a half truth. I was scared of things that happened and embarrassed my friends would think I was weird, so I fought it as hard as I could and refused to accept this could happen to me. True, I loved Grams so much, followed her around, dressed like her, and wanted to be like her, but just without her abilities. When strange and crazy things happened, she was always there to explain it. I would cry and tell her I didn’t want dead people talking to me, only to have her tell me how special I was to have them want to visit with me to pass on messages to their loved ones still here. While I might want to know if I was going to be a rock star when I grew up, I didn’t really want to know what was going to happen to other people and please don’t let it be anything bad. She would explain how I could help them by letting them know what to expect so they could make the right choices. Nope, that didn’t help me; let someone else have these messages to deliver, I just didn’t want to it to be me. My mom passed away when I was only eight and it really threw me into a spin. I was mad at her for leaving me, but even madder at GOD because I couldn’t understand how he could be so mean to take her when he knew I needed her. Again it was my Grams that finally got through to me and made me realize GOD wasn’t being mean to me and there was always a reason behind what he did. In my early teens I finally realized she was right, he wasn’t being mean to me, but instead saving my mom from a life of pain. I apologized to him and thanked him for taking good care of my mom.

In my late teens and early twenties, I finally accepted it wasn’t going away and it was time for me to embrace it and learn to work with it to help others. Then came my skepticism and self doubt era. I was giving readings but began to doubt if the message I was giving was real or just my own thoughts of what I wanted for the client. I was fortunate to find a mentor to help me overcome my self doubt and teach me to give better readings.

I still continue on my journey, reading, researching, and learning more every day. There are still times I doubt myself, but I work at getting through those rough spots and try to come out with more understanding of myself and my abilities.

This is just a little of how I’ve stumbled through my journey and I hope you’ll share your own struggles.

Why I Charge For Readings

I don’t think a day goes by where someone doesn’t ask me for a free reading. When I say I don’t give free readings, they ask why I charge for my grift. If it’s a gift, I should share it for free. So I’m going to try to be as polite as I can muster and explain why I charge for my readings.

While some may call it a gift, I instead look at it as an abilitry. Even if I were to refer to it as a gift, I would still charge. Surgeons, musicians, artists and most talented people are said to be given a gift. Do you question them why they charge for their surgeries, music or paintings? I really doubt most would even bring up the subject. Yet I and others with the same types of abilities are constantly asked. We are professionals and take our work seriously.

Doing readings is how I earn my living. While it’s great to work from home, it’s not as great as you may think. I live on the west coast, with many of my clients on the east coast. Since this is a three hour time difference, I may have to get up between 4am and 5am so they can have their reading before they start their day. I also have clients on the other side of the world, different time zones, sometimes different days, and I may have to stay up till 2am or 3am because that’s the time they are usually on the computer and asking for a reading. If I have a lot of readings to do, I may only get 2 to 3 hours off to eat, sleep and hopefully take a shower. Many of my email readings can take as long as an hour or more to perpare.

When I do readings from the http://liveperson.com/ms-yvonne website, I have to pay to use their platform. I’m charged a commission for each and every reading I perform, rather it be live chat or eamil. I have to pay to host my own web site, http://www.readingsbymsyvonne.com/. I have to spend a lot of my time and sometimes my money to promote my business. If I didn’t charge you, I would have to pay to give my readings.

I have bills just like everyone else, so yes, I have to charge for my readings if I want to have a roofe over my head and food on the table. This is my job and just like you, I don’t like working for free.

When you need a reading, whether it be from me or someone else, remember they are trying to make a living just like you, so please don’t expect them to do it for free.

Why and How To Smudge

It seems many people are hearing about the wonderful effects of smudging and I am constantly asked to explain the process and results. While most are hearing about it now being used by many high end clients to help sell their homes, it has really been around for many centuries and used by cultures from all over the world. Yes, it is a long time traditional ceremony used by Native Americans, but the people of India, China, and many other cultures have been using the smoke from herbs, plants or incense for centuries also.

There are many reasons why you might want to have a smudging done on yourself and your home. It can help remove negative energy, bad spirits, spiritual cleansing and many other reasons we will look at in this article.

Before moving into a new home, I always suggest doing a complete smudging to remove any negative energy left behind by the former occupants. This will assure you’re starting out in your new home with good energy. While many feel they don’t have negative energy around them, that is just not the case. I’m sure we all know people that always seem to be angry and refuse to see any good things in their lives. These are the type of people that can leave negative energy where ever they go, including your normally peaceful home. A good smudging after they leave will bring that wonderful feeling back to your home. Actually you don’t need a reason to smudge, it can just be something you do on a regular basis. Just as you do your regular cleaning and dusting, a cleansing of your body and environment is a good habit to follow.

You don’t need anything expensive or elaborate to smudge, however, I would suggest buying your herbs from a reliable source. While most people use white sage, you can also use western red cedar or sweet grass. I see a lot of places on the web suggest you use an abalone shell for burning, but in most of the Native American teachings I’ve read, they feel the shell is from the ocean and should only be used in water ceremonies, never burning. Instead, you should consider using a stone, clay or glass bowl. I don’t use the separate leaves, but use a smudge stick. Some I have are just the white sage, but I also have sticks that contain white sage, red cedar and sweet grass all combined. Although I use the sticks, I find that sometimes the lit ash tends to drop, so I always put my stick into a large glass ashtray filled with dirt. This also serves as a way to extinguish the sage when I’m done with my smudging.

Before you begin smudging or doing any type of ritual or ceremony, it’s very important that you first ground yourself and invoke protection. There are many ways to do this, but I’ll try to give you an easy method for both. For the grounding, standing with your eyes closed, imagine you are a tree and feel the roots coming down into the floor. You can protect yourself by picturing a safe white light coming down to surround you, as you ask whatever higher entity of your belief to protect as you smudge.

Light the sage leaves or stick, then blow out the flame so you have a nice strong plume of smoke. As you recite prayers asking to help you remove the negative energy, use your hands to first surround your body in the smoke. Continue with this until you have cleansed your entire body. To begin the cleansing of your home, start in the farthest left corner from where you enter your home. Using a clockwise circular motion, walk through each room, making sure to cover the entire area including the corners, until you have completed the cleansing of your entire home. When you are finished, make sure to completely extinguish the sage and remember to say a thank you prayer for the help provided during the cleansing.

For me personally, after I have finished my smudging with the sage, I go back and do it again with a calming herb to help bring a relaxing calm feeling back to the whole house. You can burn calming herbs, such as lavender, chamomile, or valerian. If you don’t have the herbs, you can use candles, incense or any type of aromatherapy scent like lavender, sandalwood, vanilla, ginger or cinnamon. You can also just boil a little water on the stove and drop in a few lavender buds or cinnamon sticks to achieve the same results.

In older homes, especially after major renovations, you might have stronger energies or spirits that refuse to be removed. If you are having major problems or a lot of negative energies surrounding you, a simple cleansing may not be enough. In these cases, it might require a professional to come in to do a more through cleansing. I do this type of cleansing in my immediate area, but if you need someone in your area, please contact me and I would be happy to help you find a trusted professional to help.

If you have any questions or need further guidance, please contact me through my blog and I’ll be glad to help where I can.

Current Family and Ancestors Birthdates, Coincidence or Spiritual Connection

I’ve been trying to do my family tree and have come across something that got me to thinking about family birthdays. We have a very large family, so even keeping track of our current members can be a daunting task, so until I started doing the research, I had no idea how many had the same dates as our ancestors. Is this just a coincidence or something more?

As I mentioned, we have a very large family so when some birthdays were on the same dates, I never really paid much attention. Now that I’ve been looking back at some of our ancestors going back more than three hundred years and finding the same dates, it really has me thinking.
My sister, my niece and I all have a son born on May 10, just different years. I just thought how nice this was, nothing more, until I found that was also the birthday of my grandfather. He had passed several years before I was born, so it wasn’t something I knew till I began my research. Another sister has a granddaughter born the same day as an uncle who had passed away several decades before she was born. As I continue my research, I’m finding more and more of the same.

I don’t believe in coincidences, instead everything happens for a reason, so I’ve been trying to find any type of statistic on the subject. Currently, I haven’t been able to find anything, so I have nothing but my own family numbers and my own personal opinion. I can’t but think there is a spiritual connection to the family through the numbers of the birthdates.
What about children being born on the anniversary of older family members passing? Is there a spiritual connection? This came up in a recent conversation with one of my younger sisters, actually it kind of freaked her at first. We had a brother that was born and passed in the early 1940’s. Since my own mother had passed when we were both very young, we really didn’t know exactly when he passed or where he was interred. I just recently found his grave site, along with the date of his death and his burial. The date of his burial was the same as her birthday, the year was just reversed, his burial 1945, her birth 1954. Again, I feel this was not a coincidence, but instead a spiritual connection between them. This also seems to be something that continues to repeat itself the more I research.

Is there a scientific reason for this? Is it a coincidence? I feel it’s a spiritual connection. What do you think? I hope you leave a comment and give me your own personal story or opinion on why this happens.
